On this main Retriever page, you'll find more than one great Labrador picture or painting. Ultimately, I’ve chosen some of the ones I prefer, based on an artist’s viewpoint (for what it’s worth). But most of all, how the Labrador Retriever picture might look hanging in most people’s homes.
Speaking of which, here's a drawing of my own for ya...

This first one is (of course) a Labrador Retriever picture. He’s got that look that says: “Life is rough!”…or “ruff”, so to speak. ;)
The use of watercolor in this Labrador Retriever picture is excellent. The artist doesn't try to fill up the whole paper. In fact, if he did, it would probably look too posed and/or arranged. Watercolor happens to work really well for this style of Labrador Retriever picture because watercolors' translucent quality creates that restful mood that we see with the dog.
I’ve included this Labrador Retriever picture not only because it is a beautiful portrait, but the artist has created a skillful combination. We have that faithful look of the dog himself, as well as him resting comfortably. In many ways, dogs are really scatter-brains. They can be snoring one minute, running up ‘n down the next, followed closely by an inquisitive look (as in this Labrador Retriever picture), and then finally resting again…all within a short span of time! Go figure.
The artist does a real fine job of putting these two scenes together in this Labrador Retriever picture. The strong contrast of the dog and scenery above mixed with blur around the sleeping puppy really make this Labrador Retriever picture striking. It has a dreamy quality that is not always easy to convey...especially when you're mixing portraiture like this.
What's more, the artist goes one step further and adds the duck decoy to the Labrador Retriever picture, really telling you what's on both their minds!
This Labrador Retriever picture is entitled "Mischief Makers", by Richard Britton. It's a wonderful peice that has each of these cuties characterized perfectly in this particular Labrador Retriever picture. I know from painting my own oil paintings, juxtaposing the dogs just right is absolutely crucial. The tendency is have them cluttered, or too far apart, which would absolutely ruin the Labrador Retriever picture if done with any less skill. In fact...
Every artist has a little bit of a struggle on his hands to make it work well. The main thing that makes a successful Labrador Retriever picture is that it looks natural.
And that is a sign of real skill from an excellent artist.
I speak a little about puppy mischief on the
Golden Retriever Puppy picture page
. This Labrador Retriever painting has a wonderful mix of reality: resting puppies, a watchful mother, curious on-lookers, and of course…mischief! It’s a wonderful display of an adorable litter in this Labrador Retriever picture.
