This German Shepherd picture shows the best qualities of the German Shepherd Dog
Painting this German Shepherd picture was an incredible experience. This wonderful dog (who also happens to be mine!) is obviously focused on something. He might be taking a rather short break in the snow.
Could it be a ball or toy? Another dog, a pal?
The German Shepherd Dog (GSD) really does require a lot of exercise. So naturally, playing in the snow is going to be a lot of fun! This German Shepherd picture shows him looking really focused, as if he is about to spring forward after a ball, a chew toy, perhaps even a snowball.
Another wonderful trait of the German Shepherd, is how faithful and loyal he is. Typically the German Shepherd has also been bred to be intelligent…after all, it takes some serious brains to outsmart those unwieldy sheep!
It's no wonder that the GSD has been so successfully used for shepherding, police work, in times of war, etc...But most of all, he's a great companion.
When painting a German Shepherd picture, one of the things I try to convey is the incredible sense of intelligence in the eyes. A good German Shepherd picture should show the intensity, the focus, and of course, the loyalty so indicative of this breed.
This oil painting also required many layers to give lots of depth to the snow...
Speaking of which, check out the German Shepherd that I sculpted out of snow:

German Shepherd and Puppy
German Shepherd with Puppy by Nick Van Duren
I tried to really portray the of fearlessness temperament so noted within the breed standard. However, this German Shepherd picture (German Shepherd with Puppy) shows another side of this dog: confident but content. Both are laying in the afternoon sun, gathering in the heat and just plain relaxing...but never complacent. Even while relaxing, they're focused in this German Shepherd picture.
However, whenever I look at on this painting hanging on the wall, I instantly relax…even sometimes feel like taking a nap! You can almost feel the warmth sun mixed with a soothing breeze blowing through their coats.

This German Shepherd picture captures that moment when this dog just can't help it! He has to jump up. I can certainly relate since my German Shepherd loves to do the same when the cats are nearby. (sigh)
I've always been fond of Black and White photos. It probably stems from my father's love of photography when I was a kid. We spent hours together developing pictures in our makeshift darkroom: my bedroom.
The use of subject and humor really bring the photo to life. The bunny and dog in this German Shepherd picture make it really cute.
This painting of a German Shepherd with the girl and frog just shows it all. It reminds me of going to my own grandparents during the summer and getting into all sorts of mischief. They too had German Shepherds...lots of fun!
What's more, this picture really captures that moment of curiousity, not only by the child, but by the dog. Look at him just peering over the step.
This particular German Shepherd picture shows a white German Shepherd, which is really nice to see in a painting. I haven't yet painted a white shepherd in a German Shepherd picture myself.........but soon!
