The English Mastiff Puppy

An English Mastiff puppy is sure to warm your heart. Their enormous paws, their clumsiness, and that face!

And here's a couple of cuties that I went shopping with.

A few things to consider once you get a Mastiff puppy:

1. These Mastiff puppies won't stay "small" for long.

2. Good quality food is essential to an English Mastiff puppy...they grow so fast and get so big that it is important to not cut corners.

In fact, this is me holding a couple of cuties…however; I won’t be able to do this for long. In fact, there’s a good chance that they’ll out-weigh me by the time they reach two years of age. (sigh)

Ok, back to the topic of food...

Good quality dog food will pay off big dividends. It may be expensive, but the results are well worth it. Besides, we tend to spoil our dogs anyway! ;)

What's more, good food will help to minimize health problems, dental problems, bad odors (coat and breath), lousy stools, and finally, other health problems that are expensive to treat. And while your English Mastiff puppy is growing up, there's a lot going on in that little body.

However, there’s a catch to finding good quality dog food.

Food manufacturers often change their formulas and will rarely tell you. Unfortunately, this is a sad reality in today’s dog food market. So just because a food says “all natural” or “human grade”, does not necessarily mean that it is good or will remain good. I've used many brands that work well for a while, only to disappoint later on.

The problem is, a lot of dog foods out there do fine when they first are launched, only to cheapen for whatever reasons.

Finding a good quality food that stays good quality can sometimes be a little tricky.

Furthermore, what kind of dog food might work for one dog, might not work great for another. You'll have to really pay attention to their healthy, their smell, how their coat feels, how active the Mastiff is, and finally...their stools.

Some commercial foods are like "saw dust" and, in all honesty, I really question what they are putting in them.

This can be horrible for an English Mastiff puppy.

While this site is not necessarily dedicated towards bashing dog food manufactures, I can not stress how important this factor really is...especially with a dog that grows this big so fast.

Good food will pay great dividends for your English Mastiff puppy in the future, even if it costs quite a bit more than you're comfortable with. It's wise to consult your veterinarian, but ultimately, the best guide is still you.

I've heard several veterinarians make dog food recommendations that I would never in a million years feed my dog. Just like human doctors, they are not nutritionists...although they should be, in my opinion.

One other thing to remember: most vets are essentially "generalists", not specializing in big dog health requirements. What works well for a small breed is most likely not going to be optimal for a large breed, and vice versa.

Just make sure that you pay close attention and take your dog food advice from reputable English Mastiff puppy breeders. Quality of life depends on it!

Another word of caution, even the expensive "all natural" ones don't necessarily justify what they are charging.

On a lighter note, why shouldnt' the dogs have fun during Easter?! ;)

So what would I feed an English Mastiff puppy?

The last English Mastiff puppy pictured here is now an adult. He got the brunt of experimention...unfortunately. However, if I had been able to do it right from the start, I would have fed my English Mastiff puppy Eagle Pack .

In addition to raising an English Mastiff puppy on this quality stuff, I have a 7 year old German Shepherd who eats Eagle Pack. Everyone is doing really well...their coats are soft, their stools perfect, and their energy great. In addition, I haven't had any weight issues...something to consider considering the incredible growth rate of an English Mastiff puppy.

Where can you find it?

Just click on the link above for Eagle Pack. However, the place I pick it up at is at LAUND-UR-MUTT in Aurora, Colorado. It's a little bit of a drive for me, but well worth it to keep your English Mastiff puppy healthy.

The two owners are incredibly nice and they always get a kick out of us bringing the English Mastiff puppies.
