This Akita picture shows the dog in his native element...in a Japanese Tea Garden.
However, it never ceases to amaze me how difficult it is to find Akita artwork. First of all, this is a very loyal breed, often misunderstood, but incredible in its own right.
Finding a nice painting of an Akita is simply not always easy. There are a few gems out there, but like many breeds, the Akita is often neglected.
Not anymore!
Alas, I figured that the best thing to do was to create one myself so all those Akita dog-lovers could have quality artwork to enjoy.
Graphite Pencil Drawing of Akita Picture, by Nick Van Duren
This Akita drawing was completed in December of 2003, signed and dated shortly thereafter. It’s a pretty simple drawing really, but a nice portrait that shows his character well.
As for some interesting facts and history, the Akita dog originally came from Japan. His coat is thick, which helps him in colder weather. That’s one of the reasons why the Akita dog is so striking to look at.
It's ironic that it took several layers of oil paint glazing to make this white Akita have some depth. He's gotta look fuzzy!
This wonderful breed is also alert.
While this breed can be aggressive, especially in a protective manner, they are also really loyal, loveable, and fun. The word that comes to mind is “devotion”…which is important in any dog you choose to raise and own. And that’s what I tried to convey in this drawing of an Akita picture.
He simply looks happy.
